Bodycam shows suspect being shot by LASD deputies after short pursuit and armed with a screwdriver

Deputies with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department were in pursuit of a suspect who allegedly rammed their patrol car in the area of Hacienda Heights.
They were first dispatched after reports that the suspect was threatening to commit arson. When they arrived on the scene at Crystal Lantern Drive - near Orange Grove Middle School - they found the man armed with a bottle of gasoline.

Though he was not a resident of the home, he is reportedly a family member of one of the occupants, and was threatening to burn the building down.

As deputies approached the suspect, who was sitting in his parked vehicle at the time, he fled from the scene, prompting the pursuit.

According to a report from Deputy Miguel Meza of the Sheriff's Information Bureau, the very brief pursuit ended when the suspect returned to the residence, where he ran onto the side yard - armed with an undisclosed sharp pointed metal weapon - yelling unintelligibly.

He reportedly began to approach the deputies, who fired two non-lethal 40 mm rounds at him. After he refused to surrender and continued advancing, one of the deputies opened fire - shooting him several times in the upper torso.

Paramedics were called to the scene and the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was last said to be in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
